Choosing a wedding photographer that is best for you:
Everyone has a digital camera today. Uncle Jim just bought the top of the range Canon. Surely he can take photos as good as any professional, and save us at least a thousand!
Do I need to hire a photographer?
Most likely yea, unless you like gambling and want to leave the images of your most special day to chance.
Camera Kit:
Firstly a professional photographer has invested in a lot of high quality kit, and he has years of experience using it. His kit and experience will allow him to make the most of poor lighting conditions be it a dark church or a bright sunny day (both present challenges!).
A professional photographer will spend at least 12 hours working on your wedding day. This would include checking the equipment the night before, taking photos of bride and groom (separately) before the guests arrive. Photographing the various stages of the day, checking the quality of the images during the day and backing up images, then downloading images when getting home.
Throughout the day the photographer will be in constant contact with the usshers / best man planning the next stage of the photography. The photographer needs to be flexible and adapt his plan as the day evolves.
There are a lot of duties that a professional photographer carries out that most people are not aware of. Use the services someone who does not have wedding photography experience and the evidence of lack of planning etc. may well haunt you for years to come – in the form of a poor quality set of photographs.

Hiring a professional photographer does not guarantee great photos. Over the next ten weeks I will post some tips that will increase the chances of you getting the photographer that is perfect for your wedding.
